Animal Friends Rescue Project

Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP) was hit hard by hurricane IKE. Hurricane IKE hit many people in many different ways and pets were no expectation. After the hurricane hit AFRP was contacted to take 21 dogs who were displaced by the hurricane from another shelter. In addition to taking the dogs, several of them arrived with heartworm. The addition to the shelter was taken its toll when the Petfinder.com Foundation provided them a grant. With the grant awarded the shelter was effectively able to afford treatment for the shelter dogs along with spaying and neutering several animals, making them more adoptable. By using the grant funds they were able to effectively and medically treat the animals and place them in adoptive homes. Not only did several dogs receive treatment and be placed in new homes, but four of the dogs were reunited with their original owners.
