Helping Strays of Monroe County: Purina Consider A Shelter Pet Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The funds were used to help with an adoption promotion -- specifically, 50% off all adoption fees. Giving a discount on adoption fees really made people listen and become more curious and serious about adopting their forever family member.

This grant helped because it made the animals more adoptable by saving potential adopters on adoption fees. It also helped those animals who may have had some issues be more adoptable as well. People found that if they knew what had been done to ready the animal for adoption and we were trying to get them into homes by reducing their adoption fees, it was about making a good placement and not the adoption fee.

How many pets did this grant help?

42 pets found new homes during the time period of the grant.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One of the best stories was a dog named Chyna. Chyna was what we would consider a senior dog. She came into the shelter in March of 2017 and, although she had many inquiries about her, the adoption never happened, specifically because people did not want to invest in a dog her age. Because of the adoption grant, and our being able to showcase her as part of the promotion, Chyna was finally adopted. Her adopters stated that they felt good about adopting her for many reasons and were grateful they did not have to pay the full adoption fee for a dog her age. Chyna finally found her forever home in part because of this grant.
