Tyson's Chance Animal Foundation: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kongs we received in our grant are used for daily kennel enrichment and for decompression when our dogs return from a field trip with volunteers.

We are a special-needs rescue with not only seniors and medical cases but also dogs with behavior and social challenges. Many of our dogs are with us for a longer period of time than many rescues, so offering daily enrichment and decompression aids helps support our dogs emotionally during their time with us while they are waiting for their forever families.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Dom came to us at 9 months of age from the county shelter. We are not sure of his life before the shelter, but we do know that during his time there, he was attacked by another dog. Dom can be very shy and unsure of himself when meeting new people, and any loud noises in the kennel or excitement from the other dogs could cause him to become quite anxious. We found it was very comforting to him to have a Kong in his kennel at all times. If he started to become nervous he would immediately take the Kong in his mouth and gently chew to soothe himself. We made sure Dom was never without one of his trusty Kongs! We are happy to report that three weeks ago Dom went to live with his foster family and is loving life in a home. One of the tools his foster family has used to help Dom adjust to home life is Kongs.
