Ponca City Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Kongs were used for enrichment items. The dogs love them!

Since we are no-kill facility, we house our animals for longer periods of time than other locations. Providing enrichment items allows our animals to remain mentally healthy as they wait for forever homes!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Brody (first three photos) is our handsome 4-year-old French mastiff. He was rescued six months ago from our local Animal Control and has been looking for the right home to call his own. He loves people, and toys are his favorite! We instantly knew that a Kong toy would be a hit for him, and he didn’t disappoint. Since he loves toys, especially ones that require him to work for a prize, a Kong was perfect for him as he knew right away that if he worked at it he would get some yummy treats. Brody now gets a Kong toy every day as part of his enrichment, and if we happen to miss one in his group of toys, he sure lets us know! 🙂 As Brody continues to wait for that forever home, Kong toys have helped keep him active and mentally healthy, which in a shelter setting can be difficult. We are beyond grateful for the Kong Product Grant, especially since so many of our dogs are benefiting from such a great product. Brody is still waiting for his forever home. Also pictured is our girl Athena (fourth photo). Rescued from a rural shelter in Kansas, Athena was almost hairless and severely underweight. She was marked for euthanasia, but we were able to save her. It took four months to get her healthy and, as you can tell, she turned into a gorgeous girl. Athena has been adopted but she enjoyed having a Kong toy as one of the toys she would get every day. She especially enjoyed getting a toy as a surprise after her walks!
