Doodlebug Manor: Cat Castles Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We utilize the castles to send home with our adopted kitties! It gives them a carrier, but then also a little reminder of 'home' while they are new and adjusting to their forever homes!

Immensely: When adopters come and choose a cat/kitten, they often think of everything they need except a carrier. By having the castles, they are gaining a temporary safe way to transport their new feline home, and once home, it gives the cat a 'safe place' to retreat to that has the familiar scents and space they played in at the shelter. We also add to the castle floor a baby blanket which we also use in the rescue to give our cats that added touch of homey feeling while they adjust. We have a huge adoption event every October sponsored by a local pet food manufacturer/distributor; we have set aside 25 of these just for that event, so when people choose to adopt one of the cats/kittens, they have safe transport out of the fair and home!

How many pets did this grant help?

So far, five. We have 25 slated for the October event and are in the midst of placing 11 kittens now. Each kitten will receive their own castle to go home with!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We are currently working a foster mom who is caring for a litter of six kittens. We have been blessed with pre-adoptive parents for ALL the kittens, meaning they are adopted, and once they are a little older and fully vetted, all of these kittens will go home with their very own castle as part of their adoption package with our group! These will be the perfect play houses for them!
