Louisa Humane Society: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant was used to purchase enrichment items for the dogs in our care: iCalmDog music, slow-feeder puzzle dishes, and puzzle games.

We often are searching for enrichment items for the dogs, especially the hounds in our care who need to be motivated to do more than run and bay. The items purchased help with keeping them challenged. The iCalmDog also helps to provide a soothing atmosphere when they are left alone when the foster parents go to work.

How many pets did this grant help?

Six dogs currently in our care, but the items will be used for future dogs and puppies too.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Hershey is a very active 2-year-old redbone coonhound mix. The slow feeder works perfectly to keep him challenged while he’s eating, while slowing him down so that he doesn’t inhale his food. The puzzle toy works to engage him in an exercise that rewards him for pushing and pulling the levers and sliders, again challenging him. He is still available for adoption; his Petfinder link is www.petfinder.com/petdetail/41180413
