Our grant helped Amazing Grace Equine Sanctuary in Elkhart Lake, Wis., save 16 unwanted horses and provide them with shelter, medical treatment and food. And if you donate to us through Global Giving from Oct. 14-Nov. 12, you’ll help twice as many homeless horses like Rudy (above).
For those 30 days, Animal Planet’s R.O.A.R. is matching donations to the Petfinder Foundation dollar-for-dollar (learn more about the campaign here). That means we can help groups like Amazing Grace Equine Sanctuary save twice as many horses. Executive Director Erin Kelley-Groth tells us how your support helped the horses in the group’s care:
“The grant helped to pay for the essentials that keep our horses healthy, sheltered, and well-nourished.
“On Aug. 16, we took in a horse seized by law enforcement because he was severely malnourished. He was standing in two feet of manure, the only horse left in the barn after an earlier seizure of 60 horses. His owner was planning to shoot him — a horse who had no name.
“We named him Rudy. He was so weak that he collapsed several times as he struggled to walk into our barn and spent the next few days under a vet’s care, with constant attention from our volunteers. While he still has a long way to go, he is making steady progress and we are optimistic about his recovery and future life.”
“Thank you,” Kelley-Groth adds, “for providing the funds that allowed us to take in Rudy and other horses in need.”
Rudy and many other horses, mules, pigs and goats across the country were helped by our operations grant program supported by our friends at Tractor Supply Company.
