The
owner of The Plain and Fancy Animal Rescue of Pennsylvania was
devastated to find her house destroyed following an electrical fire.
The Rescue, which helps puppy mill and street dogs, housed 40 dogs, the
owner and her family. In addition, the day before the fire, the rescue
had agreed to take 50 dogs from a breeder.
Following the fire, all 90 dogs were taken to The Humane League of Lancaster County.
The Humane League also had taken in dogs removed from two Pennsylvania
puppy mills. They received a $10,000 disaster grant from The Shelley
& Donald Rubin Foundation and the Petfinder.com Foundation to help
the animals receive medical attention, proper vaccinations, and
spay/neuter services.
As of October 13th, 2010, all of the animals taken from the fire had been placed with rescue organizations or had been adopted.
We would like to thank The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation for their support to help save the animals. The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation is a family foundation based in New York City. The main areas of activity are: Arts and Culture, Health and Human Services, and Civil Liberty and Social Justice.
